Basketball Officials Board
Conference call, Sunday
June 13, 2010
at 8:30 p.m.
Those in attendance on the call: Bob Test, Lawrence Wren, Don Patty,
James Batiste,
David Allen, Mike Hudspeth, Mike Sanchez, Glen Morton, Alton McCormick,
Don
Wenzel, Lawrence Heatley, Ricky Conner, Greg Garrett.
Introduction:
David Allen welcomed everyone to the conference call board meeting
along with James
Batiste and Alton McCormick who extended their welcomes.
Procedures:
Everyone was reminded that we are all local basketball officials’
associations. We
should be operating as usual and preparing for the upcoming season. We
all recognize
that the UIL and TASO are in a dispute but that should not delay or
deter each local
association from preparing for the upcoming season - no matter how long
the legal
matters last.
Dues:
Each local association should continue to collect their local dues and
state dues just as in
past. The State dues remain as in the past $50 for returning officials
and $25 for new
officials.
Insurance:
Our current insurance remains in force and will not be an issue. If an
official was a
registered member last year and has renewed their local registration,
then coverage will
continue. Each local association should have their list of registered
and paid officials. At
some point in the coming weeks, National Federation may request this
list along with
payment for their insurance renewal. It is important that officials
renew their registration
as soon as possible to continue their coverage.
Books:
Rule books and other books from National Federation are not released
until late August.
The UIL has always been the source of books for the State of Texas.
This procedure has
not changed. Each local association will submit their request for books
as in the past.
However, each association can decide what other materials they need.
Fees:
We are all currently operating under the CC&R 1204 that was in
place for the 2009-2010
season. This has not changed. We should be operating as business as
usual. As you
each look back to last year and see how well our local associations
communicated and the
input we had, we need to continue and build on the past year. We should
set the example
for all other associations that did not join with us last year. This
will help address any
concerns or hesitations they may have. We each have a voice and are
determining the
officiating standards for high school basketball in the State of Texas.
There are some Athletic Directors that are confused as to which pay
scale we will be
using next season. As mentioned, we are still under the 1204 that was
valid for last
season. That is the 1204 we will be following next year. We should be
planning to use
the old 1204 as of now.
If and when anything changes, everyone will be informed. Also, to
clarify, if and when
the changes for the 1204 take place, UIL will be using Google map as
the mapping
website for figuring mileage for the Metro/non-Metro plans for next
year. DO NOT USE
THIS METHOD UNTIL INFORMED.
Camps:
Many of the current year camps are already past or full. There are
still a few upcoming
camps. Fort Worth will be having a camp later this summer. South Texas
will be having
a camp. If you have camp information, please share that information
with the BB Board
and we will ensure each local association receives the information.
Conference call adjourned.
